Skelmorlie Food Festival

by Maggi Muir

Although this summer did not provide us with the weather to produce our usual bumper harvest, we still managed to sell quality produce at our lcoal village shop which helps us to continue to raise funds to invest into our garden.

We had decided this session we were concentrating on using our produce to create new products. Parents came into our school to help us select our ingredients and make different items.

We made Tomato Relish, Mint Sauce and Apple and Bramble Jam. Sammi and Kirsten had visited us last session and taught us how to make oatcakes so we made them too. We also invited in other local producers to attend our Food Festival.

On the day, we offered our customers samples of our products to taste. We used our own oatcakes to tempt them to purchase our relishes and jams. At the end of the afternoon we had sold out.

It was a great afternoon but next year we plan to make it even better.
