Organic veg in our Edinburgh care home

Food for Life Scotland arranged for Edinburgh Council to visit Chapel Farm in East Lothian where the farmer, Graham Elder, organically farms 500 acres of land just 20 miles from Edinburgh, producing carrots, kale, onions, turnips, cabbages potatoes and much more – all the sorts of things our residents love to eat.

After the visit we received some samples of organic veg and we’re going to trial it through our usual veg supplier, George Anderson & Sons. Initial feedback from the cooks Shirley and Julie (pictured) was very positive.

Shirley, our Senior Cook said “the colour from the vegetables was amazing and they did not lose any colour when cooked and due to the flavour of the fresh vegetables we did not need to use any bouillon in the soup.”

We’re really impressed so far and looking forward to using only organic vegetables.
