Growing Chickpeas for Cyprus

by P7 Pupils, Lochgilphead Joint Campus

Argyll and Bute has been twinned with Cyprus for the Commonwealth Games. We decided to grow chickpeas as they are a key ingredient in falafel and hummus. Thirty Primary 7s planted chickpeas to take home with a recipe card for hummus. The school canteen was decorated with the Cypriot flag and pupils had tasting pots of moussaka and hummus and salad dips to try.

The chickpeas that were planted in the school polytunnel have produced pods which is really interesting as no-one from Lochgilphead had seen chickpea pods before.
