Grow it, Cook it, Eat it!
Pupils studying Health and Food Technology grow vegetables on site at school in raised beds and a greenhouse. Produce is harvested and made into delicious dishes by pupils.
Last year, pupils made a fantastic salsa using tomatoes, peppers, basil, chilli and cucumber all grown and harvested from the school greenhouse. Crops this year include beetroot, potatoes, spinach and harlequin (multi-coloured) carrots.
Pupils are involved in the whole cycle from sowing the seeds to harvesting the produce, cooking the dish and critically analysing the final product.
Currie High School also has a school orchard with 13 apple and plum trees which was planted up jointly with Woodlands Special School next door. These apples are also used by pupils in Health and Food Technology and Hospitality classes.
