Food for Life Scotland Cookbook

by Food for Life Scotland

We’re proud to launch the Food for Life Scotland Cookbook, a collection of recipes, hints and tips from the schools and local authorities in Scotland who are pioneering the Soil Association’s Food for Life Scotland programme. We hope you find this a useful resource whether you are a school cook, someone involved in developing school menus, or someone who simply loves food.

This cookbook has been developed by the Food for Life Scotland Menu Advisory Panel (MAP for short). The MAP was established in March 2014 based on feedback from local authorities engaged with Food for Life Scotland, with a key purpose of providing a forum for sharing and developing recipes and ideas amongst school cooks and catering teams across Scotland. Currently there is representation on the MAP from 11 local authorities: Aberdeenshire, Argyll & Bute, East Ayrshire, East Lothian, East Renfrewshire, City of Edinburgh, Fife, Highland, North Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire and Stirling.

Some of the recipes in this cookbook come from local authority school menus, whilst others have been developed by the MAP in conjunction with a chef consultant, Pamela Brunton, as part of a one-off recipe development project. All of the recipes meet nutritional guidelines for Scottish school food.

Don’t forget you can add your own recipes any time right here on our website. Happy cooking!
