A Social Setting
Farr Primary is a rural school set beside a community woodland. As a school we benefit financially from the local wind farm. This has enabled us to ensure that all children are provided with snack and no child goes hungry. The school provides a healthy snack for all pupils consisting of daily fruit such as pineapple, apple, orange, melon, pear, grapes, etc. Also available is toast three days a week and either fruit muffins, flapjacks, shortbread or similar for the other two days. The children are provided with milk and water to drink. This is a social activity, where all children sit down together to eat and drink, helping to teach social skills and table manners and gives an opportunity to talk to each other in unstructured situations. This is inclusive of Nursery all the way through to Primary 7. By facilitating this, we are also reducing the fatty and sugary foods that many children are sent to school with across the country.
